The clinician and company behind PupiLUX
PupiLUX is built by R.Tej Health Analytics, a Delhi-based health-tech company founded by a practising neurosurgeon and former hospital CEO. Every technical and regulatory decision in the product reflects direct bedside experience.
A practising neurosurgeon, from AIIMS to the operating room
Dr. Bakshi trained in neurosurgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi — India's apex teaching hospital. His clinical work has spanned traumatic brain injury, neurocritical care, and the routine bedside decisions that PupiLUX now quantifies.
The motivation for PupiLUX is first-hand: the pupillary light reflex is examined thousands of times a day in every ICU and emergency department in the world — and almost always with a penlight. The quantitative pupillometer exists (NPi-200), but it is tethered, expensive, and monocular. PupiLUX exists because a neurosurgeon decided an iPhone should be able to do better.
A healthcare operator: Max, Manipal, IHH
Before founding R.Tej, Dr. Bakshi led three of South Asia's largest hospital networks as CEO — Max Healthcare, Manipal Health Enterprises, and IHH Healthcare India. His earlier career at McKinsey shaped the regulatory and go-to-market discipline that frames every decision in PupiLUX. The product's position as a measurement and screening tool — explicitly not a diagnostic device — is a deliberate strategy, not an oversight.

“Every clinical claim on this site is held to the standard of a peer-reviewed journal. Every threshold points to a PubMed ID. The instrument reports numbers; the clinician makes the call. That line is deliberate and permanent.”
